In about three years from now (By mid-2016), USA will be a major exporter of crude oil.

The natural inference would be that the USA has discovered new major sources of crude oil. Not true, rather this is because of the rapid deployment of alternative energy sources(renewables) in the American continent.

Improvement in Wind and Solar energy farms in conjunction with storage and feedback to grid technologies. The improvements have come due to sustained support by way of subsidies and preferential allotment - even when it seemed that the "maths don't add up".

Oil companies would in the long term be hurt by falling prices and would do well to diversify to the so-called renewables.

By 2020 it is either be up there with renewable sustainable energy source - or shrivel and wind up.
