Why Binary For Computers? Why Not Decimal

Is it possible to have, instead of solid state transistors output being limited to a binary state (0 or 1), store a decimal or even hexadecimal state?

If so, it would radically reduce computing space (storage) and if possible for the ALU, then radically increase precision and speed.

Such as % of full transistor output voltage representing a decimal value? 2.5V output from a 0-5V transistor meaning decimal 5?

Worth trying, I think.
